Details
The UCF Research Computing Symposium will be held on October 1, 2024, at the UCF Digital Learning Center and is organized and sponsored by the Office of Research. The aim is to bring together researchers in UCF who leverage advanced computing resources to accelerate their research; resources such as UCF’s Stokes and Newton from ARCC, national super-computing facilities from agencies and partners such as DoE, NSF, and NASA (NERSC, ACCESS, HiPerGator), etc. This program features a keynote by Dr. Erik Deumens from University of Florida, lightning talks from UCF researchers, student poster presentations, tour of the UCF ARCC facility and networking opportunities.
Schedule of events
Please view the agenda for the program. This event is in-person with no option for virtual attendance. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and we will also be hosting a reception during the student poster session at the end of the event.
Registration
This event is free to attend, but registration is required for all attendees. Please note that space is limited. Please complete the registration form by 9/28 5pm. If you are unable to attend for any reason, please let us know so we can free up your seat for those on the waiting list. Preference will be given to those with posters and talks to present.
Student Poster Session
If you are a student participant and interested in presenting your poster, please use the registration form to register for the event and submit your poster title and a 250-word abstract by 9/28 5pm using this form: Poster Submission Form for the 2024 UCF Research Computing Symposium. Poster guidelines can be found here. If you have any questions or issues with poster submission, email Dr. Nandan Tandon (Nandan.Tandon@ucf.edu)
Any other questions related to the event and any accommodation requests can also be directed to Dr. Shafaq Chaudhry (Shafaq.Chaudhry@ucf.edu).

Research Computing in the 2020s Decade
The decade of 2021-2030 is seeing some significant changes in how academic research will be and has to be conducted: There are transformative innovations caused by the advances in AI and impactful changes caused by legitimate concerns about cybersecurity resulting in new regulations on how research data must be safeguarded and research processes must be documented, audited, and reported on. The technology exists to meet these requirements, but the change in culture will require some time. This talk will discuss the challenges and describe some approaches to navigate them.
