RStore: Project-Based Research Data Storage

The Office of Research Cyberinfrastructure (RCI) and the Advanced Research Computing Center (ARCC) have partnered to launch RStore, a new storage service designed for faculty and research teams who need reliable, high-performance data storage for active projects.

What is RStore?

RStore is a project‑based research storage platform designed to support data‑intensive and computational science workflows, including simulation, modeling, AI/ML, and experimental data analysis. The system provides scalable, high‑performance storage integrated with UCF’s high‑performance and research computing environments, enabling efficient data access for both large‑scale compute jobs and collaborative research teams. RStore supports secure access for approved project members, professional system administration, and long‑term availability of project data, ensuring reliability and continuity across the research lifecycle. RStore is also connected to UCF’s Data Transfer Node to enable fast research data transfers between facilities and collaborators. RStore has a usable capacity of 866 TB.

RStore provides project-scoped storage starting at 1 TB, built on a parallel file system backend for computing-grade performance. Whether you're running large-scale jobs on Stokes or Newton, or working from your desktop, RStore integrates seamlessly into your workflow:

  • HPC users can access project shares directly from the command line.
  • Non-HPC users can mount shares on Mac or Windows as a shared network drive, with VPN support for off-campus access.
  • File transfers are supported through Globus, SCP and other protocols.

Who Can Use It?

RStore is available to UCF faculty and their research teams for approved research projects. A Principal Investigator must initiate access by submitting the RStore Onboarding Request form. All project members — including the PI — sign an Acceptable Use Agreement and complete a brief onboarding session, after which you'll receive mount paths and the RStore User Guide.

Regulated or sensitive data types (HIPAA, FERPA, CUI, PII) are not permitted.

What Does It Cost?

RStore is currently offered at no charge to all eligible users. A pricing structure may be introduced in the future, but for now there are no fees or restrictions on use.

Getting Started
