GitHub Enterprise for Research
The Office of Research Cyberinfrastructure now offers GitHub Enterprise access to researchers at the University of Central Florida. With GitHub Enterprise licensing provided by UCF Information Technology, research teams can create and collaborate on unlimited private Git repositories for their software projects at no additional cost.
Before continuing, please note that this platform is strictly for university-approved research and should only be used for coding projects that qualify as unrestricted data in the UCF Information Security Data Classification Matrix. If your use case involves restricted data, highly restricted data, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), or is subject to regulatory requirements, please contact Research Cyberinfrastructure for assistance with finding an alternate solution that meets your needs.

Features of GitHub Enterprise for Research
GitHub is a web-based platform for Git version control and collaborative software development. GitHub Enterprise for Research provides researchers access to this powerful tool, enabling them to manage and track code changes efficiently. Additional features include:
- Unlimited private repositories: No quota for private repository creation.
- Single-Sign-On access: Your collaborators at UCF will have access to your shared repositories through UCF’s single-sign-on, improving security and management of your existing and future collaborations.
- Work with external collaborators: Collaborators at other institutions or organizations can be granted access to your repositories. External collaborators must have 2FA enabled on their GitHub accounts.

- Repository Protection: GitHub Enterprise for Research is configured to prevent accidental or unauthorized deletion/transfer of repositories outside of the organization, ensuring your repositories remain under your control.

Costs
We are pleased to provide GitHub Enterprise access at no cost to researchers through the university’s shared licensing. Additional charges may apply for utilization of computing services through GitHub such as GitHub Actions and GitHub Codespaces.
